Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen.
It is my pleasure to welcome all of you to the Green Finance Summit 2025.
I’d like to acknowledge the presence of our distinguished guests — members of parliament and government officials, financial sector leaders, development partners, private sector stakeholders, and international participants.
I extend our deepest gratitude to our development partners whose financial and technical support has been instrumental in shaping PNG’s green finance ecosystem:
- The French Development Bank
- Asian Development Bank
- International Finance Corporation
- United Nations Development Program
- United Nations Capital Development Fund
- International Monetary Fund
- New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
- Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI)
- Hilton Hotels
And a special mention of the Summit’s delivery partner, the Global Green Growth Institute.
The commitment of these organisations to advancing sustainable and inclusive financial solutions in PNG and the Pacific confirms the growing recognition that green finance is not just an environmental necessity—it is an economic imperative.
Today, we gather here to drive an important agenda:
- How can we scale climate finance in PNG and replicate this in the Pacific?
- What mechanisms can we put in place to unlock green investments?
- How do we ensure financial institutions actively support sustainable economic development?
This Summit brings together key decision-makers and stakeholders to accelerate climate finance solutions, strengthen policy frameworks, and unlock sustainable investment opportunities.
I encourage all financial institutions, investors, businesses, and policymakers to:
- Engage actively in the Summit discussions
- Explore collaboration opportunities, and
- Identify ways to integrate green finance into your strategies.
Green finance is not just an obligation—it is an investment in our future.
Now is the time for action.
We must scale up green finance initiatives.
We must mobilise capital for climate resilience.
We must ensure that financial institutions integrate sustainability into their core operations.
The Green Finance Summit 2025 is the start of a new era in PNG’s financial sector. Together, we can build a greener, more resilient economy for Papua New Guinea and beyond.
Thank you, and I look forward to the productive discussions ahead.
